Once you are under contract on your new home, there are several things that you’ll need to take care of prior to closing. After you’ve finished sending in all necessary loan documents to your mortgage company, and you’ve gotten your new homeowner’s insurance policy in place, you’ll want to reach out to the utility companies to get those accounts set up. It’s best to take care of this at least 7-10 days prior to closing. The following is a list of many of the providers for Columbia County, but you’ll want to verify availability in your neighborhood.
Water: Contact the Columbia County Water Utility Department during business hours at 706-863-6928.
Electric: You can set up new service for your home here: Georgia Power
Gas: You should have multiple options for this including GA Natural Gas and SCANA. By visiting gng.com/housewarming or calling 1-888-258-5897, you may be eligible for a $120 Visa Reward Card or $120 in bill credits with 12 months of service by using Promo Code HOUSEWARMING and my referral code: R78784369. (See details from Georgia Natural Gas below.*)
Trash service: Several options are available. The company may also provide a separate container for recycling. The county has recycling centers for other items that may not be picked up curbside by your provider. Options include Advanced Disposal, Augusta Disposal & Recycling, or Meridian Waste.
