Whatever your reason for wanting to get outdoors on a bike, Augusta Georgia and the surrounding areas have many fantastic opportunities to help you enjoy the ride!
Deciding what type of riding you want to do is one of the most important decisions you will make. There are so many different types of bicycles and trikes that it can be a difficult decision to make on your own. Lucky you! There are four individual specialty bicycle shops spread out around the Augusta area in Richmond and Columbia counties.
• Chain Reaction Bicycles located at 4407 Evans to Locks Rd, Evans, GA 30809
• The Bicycle Peddler located at 8 Savannah Rapids Trail in Savannah Rapids Park, Martinez, GA 30907
• Andy Jordan’s Bicycle Warehouse located at 527 13th St, Augusta, GA 30901
• Outspoken Bicycles located at 1904 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904
Before deciding what type of bicycle to purchase, you should know that Augusta has endless riding opportunities. For the more laid-back bike and trike riders looking to move to the area, the Augusta Canal Towpath and North Augusta Greeneway are scenic options that connect in downtown Augusta. Many interconnected neighborhoods in Columbia County give roadies the ability to ride incredibly long routes. Within a short 30 minute drive, you can find your peace in the woods on many different mountain biking trails. There is even a BMX park for kids of all ages to race or do tricks located in Blanchard Woods Park.
If you are new to the area and searching for a way to connect with the community, many of the bicycle shops host group rides and events. Check out their Facebook pages for current event information. Chain Reaction Bicycles, located smack dab in the middle of Columbia County, offers fun no-drop rides year-round. If you are more laid back, this shop has a Monday and Thursday sidewalk ride that goes all the way to the Augusta Canal and back to their shop for a total of 11 miles. This ride is suitable for any level rider with any style of bike. For the thrill-seekers, Chain Reaction Bicycles also has a no-drop mountain bike ride on one of the more straightforward trails near Clarks Hill Lake on Tuesday nights, and a Sunday morning intermediate and advanced trail group ride at FATS (Forks Area Trail System). Outspoken Bicycles has a more experienced Wednesday night road ride that will test your limits with a challenge.
